7 years ago, my favorite spoken word artist, Suli Breaks, dropped a video called “The American’T Dream (The Purse Suit Of Happyness)”. Before you read further, go watch that video (linked below). It will be worth your time. Suli’s video is speaking out to people who are striving for success by working an unsatisfactory job. That poem moved me!

At one point in his video, Suli said, “even if you win the rat race, you’re still just a rat”. So I took that quote, put it on its ass. Then put it on its head. And then I responded with a poem. As far as the concept of a “rat race” goes [I think] my poem makes absolutely no sense crying emoji. But as far as Suli’s quote goes, I may be on to something…el oh el.
