Poetry by Charles Joseph

Rush Hour

Run around
look for knowledge
look for wisdom

look for understanding:
a slight light
bold enough to trespass the slit
in your cracked-wooden floor
but too faint to shift your world.

Run around
look for life
look for saving

look for the heroic in you;
reactions turned to rescue
push and pull a prey from the headlights—
saving your enemy.

Run around
look for peace
look for breath

look for stealth;
lose your health
surrender it all, you shall live
surrender it all, to death.
