Liberty as a Child

Photo by Any Lane – Pexel

When I was a kid, my aunt asked me if I could have anything in the world,

“what would you ask for?”
“Freedom!” I responded, relentlessly

perplexed, she confirmed with me,
“if you could have liberty, you would take it?”
“Wi!”–yes, I reassured her–Knowing freedom is the answer.

she looked down at me, ashamed.
carried the gossip to the next person
picked up the phone, alerted the world
afterwards, she…

I’m not as old as her yet.
maybe there is a type of wisdom
brought by an age I have yet to acquire
regardless, I think that is why we’re still enslaved.
