Demanding Prayers

I asked the Lord to give me blessings
but He asked me to give away my blessings

I say, I asked the Lord to give me blessings!
but He asked me to give away my blessings.

I asked the Lord to give me blessings
but my pleasures, my daily–my vital acts,
He told me to forfeit

the deeps I thought kept me upright
on my feet,
He asked me to give away

my blessings were of Earth
His, of Heaven
this pleasure, sometimes this pain
that I need
is not meant for me.

an ocean to sink right down below
as soon as a breath of air, I swallow

my “needs” are withholding from me
the greater, the greatness the Lord has for me.
Only let go of my sins, show my empty hands
then be filled with His generosity.

I asked the Lord for forgiveness
but He asked me to forgive myself:
“remove your burdens, my child.”
Sometimes, the post-trauma remains
because we haven’t unstrapped it
I seek His Love; I seek His acceptance
But He told me: I need not to look above
Search only within

I ask the Lord for happiness
He told me to smile; my smile is contagious
so infect myself how I do for others
